What is a CTF?

Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions are cybersecurity challenges where participants solve security-related puzzles to find hidden "flags" - secret strings that prove you've completed the challenge.

Challenge Categories

  • Web Exploitation - Find vulnerabilities in web applications
  • Cryptography - Break encryption and decode secret messages
  • Reverse Engineering - Analyze binaries and understand how programs work
  • Forensics - Investigate files, memory dumps, and network captures
  • Binary Exploitation - Exploit vulnerabilities in compiled programs
  • Miscellaneous - Everything else that doesn't fit other categories

Scoring

xCTF uses dynamic scoring. Challenges start at their maximum point value and decrease as more teams solve them. This keeps the competition fair and rewards those who solve challenges early.

Hints

Stuck on a challenge? You can unlock hints to help you progress. Some hints are free, while others cost points. Use them wisely!
